DAVE´S REPORT:
To my very friends of Hauptschule Ziersdorf!

Hello once again from Dave, the native English speaker of the sportsweek. It´s now 3 years since my last visit and to be honest, really missed being here these last years!

It´s become an important part of my life. When I receive the invitation, it feels almost like I`m coming home.

This years trip didn´t begin in the best way possible. Dramatically, as we were about to depart, the helicopter ambulance arrived. With great skill, the pilot landed in a piece of land that some people I know, would have had difficulty parking a car on! Tragically, a motorcyclist had crashed on the main road. I`m sure the students, like myself, hope the rider was not badly injured and will make a full recovery.

And finally our adventure began. Despite heavy clouds and rain, spirits within our group were high. Throughout our journey the clouds lifted and blue skies appeared. By the time we reached Camp Kölbl at Ossiacher See, the weather was hot and sunny.

We soon unloaded our luggage and settled into our accomadation. Then it was time for the sports tuition to begin.

As with the previous years, there was horse riding, tennis,...

...kayaking and windsurfing.

However, this year rock climbing had also been added to the activities.

With so many students, small groups had to have staggered tuition times. Naturally, this also applied to English conversation. Although, I would hold sessions with group at times set by the teachers, I was of course, available at all times for any students who wished to chat with me. I was very happy that some of the students took advantage of the opportunity!

Despite the organisational skills of our noble leader, Anton Ehrentraud, he forgot to arrange perfect weather. So on the second day, it rained all day! Oh well, nobody´s perfect!!

However, during the following days the sunshine returned and the temperatures climbed higher.

On the Thursday the teachers and students visited Landskron, to watch the display of birds of prey.

I didn´t join the group for this trip, as I`m getting a bit old for climbing up mountains! What´s more, not one of the students would volunteer to carry me. Spoilsports!

That night we had the barbecue and disco. They both proved to be very popular. The students kept asking me to dance but, as I dance like an elephant would climb a tree, I declined! However, I was forced to give in gracefully when the popular demand was for me to sing, Judging by the students´ reactions, maybe I´ll start a new career as a rock superstar? After all, I`m younger and better looking than Mick Jagger! Let´s face it through, that isn´t difficult!!

nd so we´ve reached our finally day. All morning, the students have been busy with their chosen sports, through I did join the tennis groups and talked with the students whilst they waited for their turn on the court. After lunch, they will be swimming and relaxing.

I shall also attempt to relax a little. So as our Hauptschule Ziersdorf sportsweek 2003 nears it´s conclusion, I find myself with mixed emotions. Happy at having had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful young men and women, get sad at the prospect of saying goodbye upon our return to Ziersdorf tomorrow.

I shall carry the memory of you all in my heart and head forever. If you should think of me from time to time, I hope it will be with kind thoughts. I wish you love, peace, happiness and success for the future.

Many thanks
Your friend
Dave

Erinnerungen
